🎨 This Month’s Hot Topic: Kids as Content Creators 👨‍👩‍👦
One weekend, I peeked into my son’s room, expecting the usual gaming scene. There he was, headphones on, intensely focused, clicking away on his laptop. "What are you up to?" I asked. He excitedly showed me the gaming video he was editing for his YouTube channel. As he walked me through his process — adding transitions, designing thumbnails, and analyzing engagement strategies — it struck me that this wasn’t just casual fun. | ![]() |
He had a whole workflow in place! From scripting his commentary to researching the best time to post, he approached it with such dedication and creativity that I couldn’t help but be impressed. This wasn’t just a pastime — it was a valuable skill set in the making.
Content creation is the new playground for kids, blending creativity with technology. This month, we’re diving into how kids are becoming creators, the tools they use, and how parents can support them.
🎤 Expert Spotlight: Exclusive Interview 🎤
To gather expert opinions, we consulted leading content creation specialists to address topic-relevant questions.

Inessa Kraft, Functional Trainer, Margarita Kasabutckaia, Head of People Growth, Co-authors of the Create Viral Content Course, TheSoul Publishing
1. What are the three most important concepts or terms that kids should understand if they want to explore content creation seriously?
We would like to debunk myths about content creation and share TheSoul's vision on key aspects.
Myth 1: Creativity, especially content creation, is purely about inspiration or having a muse.
We truly believe creativity is a skill that can be trained and developed. With regular practice, it can evolve into an amazing profession. Many experts at TheSoul Publishing have demonstrated this through their career journeys.
Myth 2: Only content made on professional cameras can get popular.
It's not about the quality of the video or being a professional actor. Many of our videos, which have gained millions of views, were shot on a smartphone with basic editing.
Myth 3: Success comes after the first post.
Success in content creation, as in any field, is a journey. One of our tips for future creators is to experiment and understand your audience better. Pay attention to viewers’ reactions, statistics on social platforms, get feedback from experts in the content creation field, keep the creative flow, and soon you'll see likes and positive results!
We believe everyone has talents. We recommend exploring and developing your own talents starting from childhood. With content creation, you can turn your passion into a profession and monetize it!
2. What should parents keep in focus when their children are engaging with or creating content? What are the key advantages and potential downsides?
When children create videos, they engage multiple areas of the brain, balancing imagination and logic. This process helps foster creativity, idea generation, and hands-on skills while developing communication abilities and confident speech. At the same time, videography, editing, planning, resource management, and even data analysis are practical skills children acquire through content creation.
Exploring social media for new ideas and trends isn’t just “spending time”; it’s an opportunity to learn about the world and discover new concepts. For instance, children can study how to use AI in video creation, building a strong foundation for broader perspectives and future-ready skills.
The potential downside is that kids might become overly absorbed in content creation, spending excessive time on social media and smartphones. However, as parents know, it’s all about setting boundaries and encouraging a healthy balance with other activities, such as outdoor play or family time.
3. Recommend 3 inspirational resources for kids 5-14 yo?
We believe it’s important for kids to have access to positive content that inspires curiosity and nurtures creativity. Many of our channels are designed with this in mind:
For younger kids, we suggest watching:
|
|
|
Teenagers might be interested in 123 GO! and La La Life channels. These channels offer cool hacks, challenges, beauty tips, myth-busting, and DIY projects. Teens might even see themselves reflected in these trendy and relatable stories.
4. Trends and Insights: Based on your data, what trends are shaping the preferences of younger audiences on platforms like YouTube, TikTok, etc.?
Popular content formats among teenagers include reaction videos, try-it-out or challenge videos, viral dance trends (TikTok), gaming content, crafting, gadget reviews, and makeup tutorials. These categories resonate strongly with the audience, driven by their desire for entertainment, relatability, and self-expression.
In terms of format, shorter content reigns supreme, with younger audiences showing a strong preference for videos that immediately capture their attention. That’s why it’s so important to learn to grasp viewers' attention from the first seconds and create dynamic content. It’s an essential skill, and we also help train in this area.
A true expert can work deeply with trends – analyze current trends and create content taking into account audience preferences, mix up trends, and even become a trendsetter, influencing topics that will be watched by millions. In our course, we help participants learn all this.
5. What advice would you give to parents on using your content as a tool to bond with their children?
What always bonds people? Being engaged in a common activity. While passing the course and practicing, both parents and children can co-create cool videos and discuss various steps. Which idea to choose? What will the scenario be? Will the video be about crafting, acting, or speaking in front of the camera? Hmmm… What if we engage a lovely pet to work on camera? What if we create a cool decoration at home?
Participants of the course will also work on a final video project. Parents are welcome to provide support and offer helpful advice.
It’s also a wonderful opportunity for parents to better understand their children. You can explore their preferences in media and content creation, gaining insight into how they see the world. This shared experience can become a meaningful way to bond and connect.

The application I used is Momo App. I downloaded several of my photos, chose the video template—deciding between me and a bear or me and a reindeer—and simply pushed the button to create. My result was really very alike to me, but my friends’ trials honestly were... completely unrecognizable though.
